The original of this work has been sold to an American collector. The piece was completed outside during the winter of 2004. The artist took the canvas outdoors and worked on it from there.
‘ I remember painting this piece as it was very cold and windy outside. The stretcher kept on catching in the wind like a sail. As with all the seascapes – they have been in the sea and have been worked on from there. The piece took about 3 weeks to complete and is elemental in appearance. It was very close to me and I nearly had a nervous breakdown when I sold it. It was a piece that had received all kinds of opinions prior to sale, people had often scoffed at me for making art and over looked the piece. It says so much about the artists struggle. As well as the area (Hove, East Sussex). Strangely enough when it was being shipped over to America sea water dampened the corner and the piece had to be restored / insured…’
There is a lot to be gleaned from this piece of work…
